To Fail Or Not To Fail

The only thing that I can say about this week is FAILURE!!  I was traveling a lot of the week and did not come close to keeping my challenge (it huts me to admit this).  So without boring you with the details I thought I would relay some GREAT points about failures in our life.

A failure is only a failure if you don't learn from it!  School was never easy and tuition never cheap.  After Thomas Edison had failed more than 5,000 times at making the incandescent light bulb some questioned his failures.  He responded by telling them that he had not failed 5,000 times, but had discovered 5,000 ways that the light bulb would not work.  Do not waste a failure!  It's a great opprtunity to better your skills, and advance your performance.

Here are some steps to take when you experience a failure.
  1. Analyze the failureDo not miss this opportunity.  This setback has already cost you time, and possibly money and other resources.  You should spend adequate time asking yourself all the necessary questions that will lead you to step 2.  Take as much time as is needed.
  2. Identify the fault(s).  You HAVE to know what went wrong.  You can't fix something if you don't know what's broken.  Be sure you clearly see your nemesis.
  3. Mend the ego.  Don't let this get you down.  It's not over until you quit!  Realize that this is just what you needed to straighten your course.
  4. Plan for success.  Now determine what you must do to have the success that you deserve.  Write down your plan, and chart your course.
  5. Determine to persist.  Decide now that you won't quit.  You will stay the course, and cross the finish line.  You are not discouraged, but you are encouraged by the fact that you are one step closer to you achievement!

Week 1 Update

I didn't do as well as I had hoped, but I'm off to a good start.  Here is a breakdown of the week:
  • The Whole Foods Diet - Missed a few meals
  • The Green Smoothies - Missed a couple days
  • P90X - Missed one day.
  • Running -  Completed ALL three days!
  • Bible Reading - Missed a couple days (Hopefully will catch up).
  • Six Pack Promise - Forgot a few days.
  • Caffeine Challenge - Success!
  • Mind - I felt like I was more focused on positive thoughts.
  • Weekly Devotional - Just Posted!
All in all I thought things went well.  Some of the "fails" were because of prior engagements that I had forgotten about.  I did well enough that I feel motivated to do better this next week.  I'm looking forward to what this week has in store!

What's it all about?

I have  put together a challenge that would push my self discipline farther than it has ever been pushed before.  But I want the end result to leave me with something more than the ability to say, "I did it".  So my goal is to follow this challenge to the best of my ability for the next 90 days.  YOU will be my support and accountability person.

In the end I hope to be:
  • Godlier
  • Happier
  • Healthier
  • Fitter
  • Sharper

My challenge will be focused on the following areas:
  1. the Mind
  2. the Body
  3. the Spirit
Check out the Challenge page to see the actual rules.

Feel free to leave comments and let me know your thoughts!

By the way, the effective dates are...

Aug 13 - Nov 10
